BRACEBRIDGE – Kids at Macaulay Public School received an extra special treat for National Arbor Day.
That was the day a large white pine in their playground that has stood for as many as seven or eight decades received a little tender loving care from arborists at Coulson Bros Arboriculture.
Arborist Kyle Vincent said arboriculture is a growing industry and many of the students walked away from the presentation with the dream of climbing trees for a living like Kyle Lemesurier, who was busily trimming limbs creating a healthier tree throughout the presentations.
Under normal circumstances a tree is planted in honour of Arbor Day but Vincent has had his eye on this particular tree.
“We’ve been looking at this tree for a long time,” he said. “Instead of planting a tree we thought, ‘Why don’t we just start taking care of trees.”
This gave Vincent the opportunity to speak to the kids about the importance of Muskoka’s trees and forests.
